Emergency Room Services

We are the front line of health care on the North Slope. Here patients are directed to specialized care. And it is here that patients receive the immediate care they need – from bandages for simple abrasions to a Level IV Trauma Center for comprehensive care of traumatic injuries.

Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital is a Level Four Trauma Center. The Emergency Room is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for evaluation, care, and advanced trauma life support.

Critical or life threatening problems which require out-of-area specialty care are stabilized at SSMH, and then transported to facilities with more advanced capabilities.
