Physician Services:
Our Physician Services Department is staffed by a Medical Director and board certified/eligible Family Practice Physicians. As compassionate as they are skilled, the physicians of Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital are dedicated to ensuring the health of Barrow for years to come. And through their professional care and partnership with Village Health Aides, they help to ensure the health of the communities of the entire North Slope for generations to come.

As our needs grow, Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital is always looking for additional physicians interested in embracing a rich and vibrant culture and promoting the health of the rural Alaskan communities of the North Slope. We offer a competitive salary and benefits (including ATLS, ACLS, ALSO, CPR, NRP, PALS fees paid for by the hospital and not charged to CME account), continuing education options, and an exciting opportunity for the adventuresome spirit.

Additional information on our Physician Services Department can be found in the FAQ section.

Pharmacy:
The Pharmacy Department serves as both a hospital pharmacy and a retail pharmacy for Barrow. Our pharmacists also serve the outlying villages, filling prescriptions for village patients in the more remote areas of the North Slope.

An Alaska state pharmacist license is required to work as a pharmacist in the state. Details about obtaining a license can be found by contacting the Board of Pharmacy at 907-465-2589. Information is also available at their website www.commerce.state.ak.us/occ.

For more specific information on our Pharmacy Department see FAQ’s.

Medical Imaging:
The Medical Imaging Department is an integral part of Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital that performs routine x-ray examinations, IVP’s without tomograms, fluoroscopic examinations, and ultrasounds for a wide range of patients. It is with their knowledge and experience that we are able to detect, and ultimately diagnose and treat, a wide range of injuries and illness. Our dedicated and caring staff also offers mammography services through a grant program at the Wellness Center. However, we are unable to perform vascular studies.

One trip each year is funded for our permanent technologists to attend a continuing education course. We also pay for each technologist’s membership in ASRT, which allows him or her to complete directed readings for continuing education. By joining Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital, you are not only ensuring the continued health and growth of our communities, but your continued growth as well.

For more information on our Medical Imaging Department see FAQ’s.

Laboratory:
Our Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. We are a full service hospital laboratory, inclusive of transfusive services. We serve the hospital, North Slope Borough Behavioral Health and Public Health Nursing, and the outlying villages.
